Quella arrived on the scene in 2012, starting in a shed in Cambridgeshire with just a few models but quickly growing to now cover a dizzying array of single-speed bikes, including half a dozen e-bike options. Among them is the Oxford, available with either a bullhorn-style handlebar or a more traditional upright riser bar. Either way the design has a decidedly retro feel, with a sleek and stylish steel frame that has a glossy paintjob and tan finishing kit, complete with tan-wall Kenda tyres and matching bar tape. The only visible indication that this is an electric bike comes from the oversized rear hub, which houses the Zehus motor system. Tenways has refreshed its e-bike range for 2025 with the introduction of the new AGO Air, a mid-drive model with a strong all-round spec at a decent price for an urban commuter. That mid-drive motor is a departure for Tenways, which to date has based its e-bike range around hub motors, with the popular CGO800, CGO800 Plus and CGO600 all going this route and delivering 40Nm or 45Nm torque. The AGO Air’s mid-motor pushes out a far more formidable 80Nm, which paired with the removable 560Wh battery delivers up to 100km of assisted range – about the same as you’d get from the CGO hub motors. Last year we were lucky enough to get a few summer months with the top-spec Orbea Rise, which with its carbon frame and race-tuned motor was a pleasure to ride, even if its £11,000 pricetag made it out of reach for many. So how does the aluminium-framed Rise LT H10 compare given its much more palatable £5,999 asking price? For starters, let’s not write aluminium off. A carbon frame is nice to have, but given that the tubing on the Rise LT H10 is hydroformed, there’s no more metal on this e-bike than is needed. The geometry is the same, as are the size range and various build kit options. Designed and engineered in Spain, Unno’s Mith Race stands out for its low-slung frame that has been carried over from prior generations but adapted to use the Avinox mid-motor, as well as the 800Wh battery that, at the time of writing, seems to be the standard choice with the DJI system. That’s a lot of battery for an e-MTB that weighs just a little more than 20kg. It nonetheless melds refined design with a functional level of e-assistance, cloaking its motor and battery within a sleek carbon OMR frame that’s finished with glossy paint so that you can still see the carbon fibre underneath. The award-winning and eye-catching Ca Go CS range takes a different approach to many bikes in this sector, spreading its cargo holds around a relatively compact wheelbase. By adding a cargo hold low down on top of the more traditional spots over the wheels, this unique e-bike has excellent handling when loaded up thanks to its low centre of gravity. These cargo holds are designed to handle most standard crates and carriers. Tenways’ e-bike range got a lot bigger in 2025 with its new Ago hybrid bikes, the European launch of a cargo bike and updates to the CGO city bike series. The CGO800 Plus is one of the new launches, adding value over its previous generation by incorporating a Shimano Claris eight-speed drivetrain alongside a handful of subtle upgrades. Adding to the manual assistance of the gearing, a torque sensor detects pedal pressure to inform the adjustable power delivery of Tenways’ C9 hub motor, which is capable of a 45Nm torque at its peak. Halfords has reduced the price on many of its electric bikes in recent months, and one example is the Carrera Crossfuse. Originally priced at £1,999, this e-bike is currently retailing at £1,599. Given that this model has a full suite of Shimano electronics and the highly serviceable and reliable Shimano Cues groupset, the price drop makes a great package even better value. The mid-motor drive system is Shimano’s EP6 model, which delivers a hefty 85Nm of torque. British folding bike brand Flit spent the longest stretches of the pandemic’s lockdowns refining its products, using the shipping delays that plagued the supply chain to take what was already a well-regarded product and improve the ride experience, notably by reducing the bike’s weight. With an Innovate UK grant supporting the business and time on the company’s hands, Flit’s designers went back to the drawing board to optimise the proprietary frame, moving from a welded to a bonded construction that could be produced faster and with a paint-free, anodised finish that is quite striking. In refining the frame production, Flit has taken a full kilogram off the complete bike, and given that the battery is removable you could ride this as a non-electric build with a further 1.5kg shaved off.…

Given that it’s made by one of the world’s largest tech manufacturers rather than a traditional bike brand, the Ebii was never going to be just another e-bike. This is Acer’s first foray into e-bikes but certainly not the last, with a new Ebii-M model with a Bosch motor launching just as we send this magazine to press. Starting with the obvious, and the Ebii does away with a traditional two-triangle approach to frame design. The newly launched Canyon Endurace:ONfly aims to reinvent electric road performance by utilising a diminutive mid-mounted motor to achieve a sub-10kg total weight. As a result, the foundations of the Endurance:ONfly are essentially similar to Canyon’s purely pedal-powered performance cycles: low weight, aerodynamics and riding efficiency from the precision-moulded carbon frame. In this case, however, there’s also the 200W push from the TQ HPR40 mid-motor to factor in. In the 1960s, a British icon of cycling was born courtesy of the late Alex Moulton, whose experience in automotive engineering allowed him to transfer his skills to bicycle production. Batribike is owned by Promovec, a Danish family firm that specialises in the supply of electric bike components, in particular batteries, which it says are made as sustainably as possible. Given that the battery is an e-bike’s most expensive component, this is a major advantage for Promovec’s bike brand because it helps Batribike deliver high quality at a competitive price. What we were not expecting was a half-price cut on the Nova range, drawing already reasonable prices down to comfortably below £1,000. TERN GSD S10 GEN 3 ■ We remember our introduction to the Tern GSD around a decade ago as if it was yesterday. With its Bosch mid-drive motor it largely established the longtail cargo bike concept as we know it today, and Tern has been at the forefront of the market ever since. That begs the question: what does this Gen 3 model bring to the table to improve such a well-established platform even further? Europe's largest electric bike maker's offering in the folding bike segment is an uncompromising product. Like the rest of Cube's e-bikes, power comes from a Bosch mid-motor, in this case the excellent Active Line Plus drive with its 50Nm torque. This is driven by a 500Wh battery, which claims to deliver an above-average range of up to 120km, and is removable for a greater flexibility of charging options. ADO is a relatively new name, but in just four years this online-only brand has grown into a major force in the electric bike market. Its range of sub-£2,000 urban bikes covers everything from folding bikes designed for commuters to step-through cruisers for all-round use. One of few urban electric bikes to sneak in below 15kg, the Specialized Vado SL 2 Carbon unsurprisingly has weight as a key selling point given the impact it has on performance and range metrics. In typical Specialized form, the brand’s marketing says it would be rude to call this an e-bike. We’ll have to live with being rude, then, but we take the point – it is genuinely hard to tell it apart from a regular bicycle.
