Cassie McCaffrey is only 15, but unlike most teenagers, who spend their time hanging out with mates and at sleepovers, Cassie’s had to grow up fast.
Since she was a toddler, she’s dedicated her time to looking after her mum Zoe, who has multiple sclerosis, a debilitating neurological condition that can affect movement, balance and vision.
Zoe, 38, who’s also mum to Leona, 12, and Kylie, 18, relies on a walking frame, suffers extreme exhaustion and has to take strong medication. Even making a cup of tea can leave her feeling wiped out.
Every day, Cassie gets up at 6.30am, ensures her sister Leona is up, checks Zoe’s medication, makes breakfast, cooks dinner every night, then helps Zoe bath and get ready for bed.
For a much-needed break,
Closer treated…
