By their very nature, record company-instigated āprojectsā such as Crowne come and go, a small number attaining sticking power but the majority, quite rightly, quickly forgotten. It speaks volumes, then, that Wonderland is the third album in four years from this Sweden-based group of alumni from Europe (sturdy bassman John LevĆ©n), H.E.A.T (Jona Tee, keyboards), Art Nation, Lionville and Nitrate (helium-voiced Alexander Strandell), Dynazty (guitarist Love Magnusson) and The Poodles (former drummer Christian Lundqvist).
Once again, Crowne donāt let us down. The mix of rousing, sing-song, Scandi-AOR choruses, top-drawer, symphonic-tipped musicianship and, soaring above it all, the vocal athleticism of Strandell is really something to behold. The music sometimes nudges into heavy metal territory ā in fact Saxon vocalist Biff Byford contributes some words for the Viking themed,ā¦
