Q I'm breastfeeding my baby, but keep getting mastitis – is it safe to keep feeding her?

A Mastitis, when a breast becomes red, swollen and tender, usually happens if you're breastfeeding. Sometimes it means the breast is swollen with milk that can't come out quickly enough, or one of the ducts carrying milk to your nipple is blocked. But it can mean an infection, which might also make you feel unwell, with shivers, aches and a fever.
This usually happens when bugs enter through tiny splits in your nipples, so you're likely to have sore nipples too.
It's fine to keep feeding and expressing provided there's no pus coming from your nipple, and treatment means antibiotics, painkillers, rest and hot and cold compresses.…
