A large-format, 320-page, highly illustrated and authoritative book, linked in with a BBC TV series, at a surprisingly good price, deserves to be popular. Let’s hope so, and hope it helps influence more people to care for our wildlife, habitats and landscapes that should be cherished, not trashed.
The book looks at many of the best sites and habitats of Britain, interpreted through excellent essays on particular species and interviews with conservationists active on the ground. The photographs are excellent, despite one eyecatching misidentification (which links to one small mistake, I think, in the text, suggesting that Black-headed Gulls are the main ‘parasites’ responsible for stealing food from Puffins).
