For decades professional basketball stagnated with positions based on the height of the player. If a guy was 6-foot, 9-inches, or taller, depending on the decade, safe bet they were a power forward or a center. Even with Magic Johnson coming into the league in 1979, the idea of a tall point guard was not a regular thing until the 1990’s into the 2000’s. But in between the big men in the paint and the shorter guy running the show at the top of the key, forwards started to showcase ballhandling, passing, and shooting skills putting extra pressure on defenses which helped evolve the game to a new position that would be called the Point Forward.
