The flagship SUV model in the ‘i’ line-up is similar in size to the X5 and is designed to rival the Tesla Model X, although it only has five seats. As with the new i4, it will arrive in November, and it’s priced from £69,905. The range starts with the iX xDrive40, which uses a 70kWh battery and has twin electric motors that make a combined 322bhp. The ‘Relax’ scheme adds a year’s warranty to a vehicle each time it’s serviced at a Toyota or Lexus dealer. There’s no extra cost for the programme, service prices are unchanged, and vehicles are eligible until they are 10 years old or have covered 100,000 miles. EXHAUSTS QUANTITY isn’t always a guarantee of quality. But if we’re talking about the exhausts of these two contenders, then the Cupra Leon’s four tailpipes beat the GTI Clubsport’s two. Not in looks – that’s completely subjective – but noise. Engage the Leon’s Sport or Cupra modes, and they produce a raspy tone that’s just on the polite side of antisocial. In comparison, the Golf’s twinpipe set-up sounds a little flat. BRAKES ONE of the few areas where these two hot hatches diverge mechanically is in their brake set-up. The Clubsport’s braking system is uprated over the standard GTI’s, with larger discs and aluminium pistons that help to reduce unsprung mass by 600g each side. SINCE the car’s launch in early 2020, the Defender range has already expanded to include the commercial Hard Top models plus a plug-in hybrid, and a V8 that costs more than £100,000. But JLR’s Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern, has always spoken about the Defender ‘family’, so what’s coming next? Mid-size SUV to join electric Ioniq line-up HYUNDAI has confirmed that it will launch a new “three-row mid-size” electric SUV in 2024, called the Ioniq 7. ELECTRIC hypercar specialist Rimac Automobili has unveiled its new Nevera hypercar. Developed from the C_Two concept, the Nevera features four electric motors to give all-wheel drive and a total of 1,888bhp and 2,360Nm of torque. This gives the Nevera incredible claimed performance, with Rimac stating a 0-60mph time of just 1.85 seconds; acceleration from 0-100mph takes 4.3 seconds and 0-186mph is dispatched in 9.3 seconds. Top speed stands at a claimed 258mph. Rimac says the 120kWh battery will deliver a maximum range of 340 miles, and with 500kW charging capability a 0-80 per cent top-up will take just 19 minutes – if you can find a supply that supports this. RENAULT has registered four trademarks for its recently established Mobilize brand, hinting at what its planned range of urban electric vehicles will be called. The trademarks include the Mobilize Duo, Bento, Limo and Hippo name plates. We expect the first will become the production version of the EZ-1 prototype (pictured), a two-seat 1+1 EV. Smartphone is key for Polestar 2 drivers OWNERS of the Polestar 2 EV can now use their smartphones as a ‘digital key’, so they can leave their physical fob behind and access the car via an app. The feature was added to compatible cars via an over-the-air software update.
