THIS is our first look at the all-new, second-generation Juke. Nearly 10 years since the current car went on sale, Nissan is finally putting the finishing touches to the next generation, due at the end of the year. AUDI has unveiled a quartet of new plug-in hybrids ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. The Q5, A6, A7 and A8 all now feature a PHEV option; badged TFSI e, they will be available to order later this year. The Q5, A6 and A7 plug-in hybrids are offered with the choice of two powertrains: the 50 TFSI e makes use of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a gearbox-mounted electric motor, and develops 291bhp and 450Nm of torque. THIS new X-Class and the high-spec Amarok offer something a bit different to most other pick-up trucks. VOLVO has revised the XC90, treating its biggest SUV to reworked styling, more safety kit and fuel-saving mild-hybrid tech. The Swedish brand’s continued push towards electrification means that all XC90s will soon feature a Kinetic Energy Recovery System. This harvests energy that would otherwise be wasted when braking, then deploys it under acceleration to reduce load on the combustion engine. According to Volvo, the system will reduce fuel usage and tailpipe emissions by 15 per cent. The new mild-hybrid models will be signified by ‘B’ badging, with B5 and B6 petrols and a B5 diesel taking the place of the existing T5, T6 and D5 units. AT the other end of Audi’s line-up, the brand has launched a new flagship SQ5 TDI, which arrives in UK dealers in the spring. Now packing diesel power, it’s driven by a 342bhp 3.0-litre V6 turbo. The motor is supplemented by a 48V mild-hybrid system that also feeds an electric compressor to reduce turbo lag and improve engine response from low revs. As with all performance-based Audis, it sends power to the road via an eight-speed auto gearbox and permanent all-wheel drive. OVER at SEAT, the firm has revealed its take on the future of urban mobility with the new Minimo concept. The electric runabout is tasked with addressing the concerns of inner-city congestion and increasingly stringent emissions regulations. It’s a 1+1 car that’s similar in size to the Renault Twizy and, at only 2,500mm long and 1,240mm wide, the Minimo is ideally suited to city life, says SEAT. Features include asymmetrically-sized doors built to operate in tight spaces, 17-inch alloy wheels and a single central headlight.
