If you want a combination of new house and old style, a farmhouse is the perfect solution. “Farmhouse style lends well to history,” says Lindsay Ewing, founder of ECraft Homes. “I’ve lived on farms, and I was really interested in the take on, not a modern farmhouse, but one that was made modern.” That’s just what she and her design-build team did here: They designed and built a farmhouse that’s brand new, but has the feel of being added onto over the years. Located in historic Washington Crossing, PA, just down the street from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River on the frigid night of December 25-26, 1776, this renovated farmhouse is a sheer delight! Originally built in 1914, the farmhouse had deteriorated over time and required serious love and attention. So, the homeowners decided to have Kevin Kaminski and Alexis Pew, founders of Kaminski + Pew, a Philadelphia based architectural and interior design firm, take on the project. “The existing home had great bones and a great piece of land, but it was on the small side,” Kevin and Alexis say. Over a year ago, we started our journey with an empty lot in the mountain-rimmed and big sky city of Salt Lake City, Utah. We met Cara and Tom Fox, the incredible husband-wife duo behind the full-service residential design and construction firm, The Fox Group, and owners of the cute boutique shop filled with all sorts of home treasures, The Fox Shop. When you buy three acres of land in the middle of rural farm country in New Jersey, of course you must build a farmhouse.
